JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Residents can get rid of expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical drugs Saturday, April 27, during the Drug Enforcement Administration's fourth National Drug Take Back initiative in Johns Creek.

Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., anyone with expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medicines can turn them in anonymously for safe disposal to the JCPD stationed in the parking lot of Target, 5950 State Bridge Road in Johns Creek.

The event, sponsored by the Johns Creek Police Department in conjunction with the DEA, is designed to reduce prescription drug abuse, reduce the risk of prescription drugs entering the water (DO NOT FLUSH drugs down the toilet) and help people comply with the law regarding disposal of prescription drugs.

Since the first event in 2011, the DEA and its state, local and tribal law enforcement and community partners have removed 2 million pounds (1,018 tons) of expired/unused prescription medications from circulation.

For information, please contact JCPD Community Services at 678-474-1606.
