CUMMING, Ga. — Two local girls got a unique flying experience early Saturday morning, April 10.
Mary Rafferty, 9, has been selling doughnuts to raise funds for her friend, Katelyn Duvall.
Katelyn, who has chronic gastrointestinal issues, has been a Children's Healthcare of Atlanta patient that has gone in and out of the hospital since she was 3 years old.
Mary's fundraising has paid off. The two girls started their Mary Poppins-inspired day of adventure with a hot air balloon ride over the city of Cumming.
The girls and their families boarded the multi-colored balloons, courtesy of Fly Wendy Fly at the Ingles shopping center off Bethelview Road and later landed for a sparkling cider and champagne celebration.
From there, the girls headed to The Melting Pot Midtown for a fondue meal followed by a matinee showing of "Mary Poppins" at the Fox Theatre.
