MILTON, Ga. – Milton’s fourth annual Earth Day Festival is coming up on Saturday, April 20. Hosted by the City of Milton and the Milton Grows Green committee, the event will take place in Crabapple at Friendship Community Park, 12785 Birmingham Highway, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event’s focus will be on teaching citizens how they can care for the earth and being kind to the environment around them.

For its first three years, the Milton Earth Day Festival was held at Birmingham Park but this year the location has been changed.

“We want people to get acquainted with the [new] park,” explained Milton Grows Green committee co-chair Jack Lindon.

Friendship Community Park is less than two acres in size, much smaller than Birmingham Park, which is about 200 acres.

“We’re hoping that it’s a beautiful weekend and we can get a lot of people out to see the new park,” said Teresa Stickels, the event’s co-chair and a member of the Milton Grows Green committee. “We’re excited about seeing [the Earth Day Festival] in its new location.”

On-site parking will only be available for vendors and the handicapped. However, parking is available across the street at Crabapple Baptist Church, in the nearby business park and at Northwestern Middle and Milton High schools north of the park.

“Most people will [be able] to park and walk across the street,” Lindon said.

The event will feature free kids’ game such as a climbing wall, hamster balls, a monkey bridge and games and crafts with an environmental focus. Staff from the Chattahoochee Nature Center and Jim Nark from Party Animals Atlanta will bring demonstration animals. In addition, Captain Planet will make an appearance.

About 45 vendors from local businesses will be on hand, many with environmentally friendly products. Food from local restaurants will be available for purchase.

This is one of the biggest events that the Milton Grows Green Committee puts on each year. Last year over 1,200 people attended, and this year they anticipate even more. Sponsorship for the event from area businesses has also increased.

“We really want to keep people educated about what’s important with the environment,” explained Lindon.

Co-chair of the Earth Day Festival Kathy Johnson said, “We believe people want to do something positive for Earth Day. Come and enjoy and possibly learn something new about how you can protect the environment, and have fun.”
