April 02, 2013MARIETTA, Ga. — U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, in coordination with the Georgia congressional delegation, announced plans for the annual statewide Military Academy Day.
It will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 in the Dobbins Air Reserve Base at 1295 Barracks Ave. SE in Marietta.
Guests may arrive as early as 8:45 a.m. to visit information tables and to avoid congestion at the entrance gate.
Isakson's annual event is the largest of its kind in the country and last year drew more than 1,000 participants from across Georgia.
The event will help familiarize students with the application and nomination process for applying to the nation's five service academies.
Representatives from all five academies, including the admissions director for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the Southeast regional admissions director for the U.S. Military Academy, the admissions director for the U.S. Naval Academy as well as the director of admissions for the U.S. Air Force Academy and an admissions partner for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, will also be in attendance to explain their requirements and expectations and to answer questions.
The event is open to students in grades 8-12.
Along with Isakson, U.S. Reps. Tom Price and Austin Scott are scheduled to participate in the event.
Due to Dobbins' security restrictions, all attendees must make reservations in advance and must present photo identification at the main entrance gate for admittance.
"I am always delighted to host this excellent opportunity for Georgia students to learn about our nation's military service academies," said Isakson.
"While students accepted to the academies enjoy the benefits of a free, stellar education, the choice to serve our country is a great one. This event will allow students and their families to hear directly from each academy and what they offer, as well as learn about the requirements and application process for attending these celebrated institutions."
All individuals who are interested in attending must make a reservation by registering online at www.isakson.senate.gov.
All individuals who wish to attend must provide their phone number and date of birth by the registration deadline at 5 p.m. on Monday, April 8.
All questions will be addressed to Nancy Brooks, academy director for Isakson, at 770-661-0999.
