Local chapter aims to educate schools, community on food allergies

March 25, 2013
FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The National Allergy and Anaphylaxis Council (NAAC) launched a new organization servicing the food allergy and anaphylaxis community.

Karen Harris, a Forsyth County resident, created the local chapter of this association called the Food Allergy Kids of Atlanta (FAKA).

Harris was inspired by her daughter who has multiple food allergies. Harris said FAKA aims to raise awareness about food allergy management and safety in the community and schools.

The NAAC wants to become an "advocacy hub" for the allergy and anaphylaxis community. They have created an interactive space for people to voice their concerns.

In turn, the NAAC leadership council will advocate for common goals on a national level.

"All people affected by allergy and anaphylaxis need to have an equal voice," Gina Lee, director and co-founder of the NAAC said. "By establishing the NAAC, we are creating a space for these voices to be heard."

For more information, visit the Anaphylaxis Council website at www.AnaphylaxisCouncil.org.
