CUMMING, Ga. – The Forsyth County Fire Department promoted six employees and honored retiring Capt. Dwight Clark at a special ceremony March 8.

Clark retired after about 54 years in fire service. He has worked as fire instructor since April 2001.

Clark started his career in San Angelo, Texas and worked with the Georgia Fire Academy prior to joining Forsyth County.

"I've enjoyed my time here," Clark said to family and friends at the ceremony, held at the Forsyth County Public Safety Complex.

Forsyth County Fire Chief Danny Bowman said the department respects Clark, values his work and will miss his leadership.

"Much credit is due to your unflagging energy and untiring zeal toward building our effective and professional fire department," Bowman said.

Clark was given a fire ax, which he graciously accepted with a fist pump and resounding "Yes!"

During the ceremony, six employees were promoted and received praise from Bowman for their dedication to the county.

Bowman praised the employees as integral to the success of department.

The county has 129 full-time field suppression firefighters in addition to shift workers and a variety of support and administrative personnel.

A light dinner was served after the ceremony.

"The dedication and leadership exhibited by these members of the fire department is to be commended," Bowman said. "It is with tremendous pride that we promote them to their new ranks and positions."
