March 19, 2013CUMMING, Ga. – The Forsyth County Fire Department promoted six employees and honored retiring Capt. Dwight Clark at a special ceremony March 8.
Clark retired after about 54 years in fire service. He has worked as fire instructor since April 2001.
Clark started his career in San Angelo, Texas and worked with the Georgia Fire Academy prior to joining Forsyth County.
"I've enjoyed my time here," Clark said to family and friends at the ceremony, held at the Forsyth County Public Safety Complex.
Forsyth County Fire Chief Danny Bowman said the department respects Clark, values his work and will miss his leadership.
"Much credit is due to your unflagging energy and untiring zeal toward building our effective and professional fire department," Bowman said.
Clark was given a fire ax, which he graciously accepted with a fist pump and resounding "Yes!"
During the ceremony, six employees were promoted and received praise from Bowman for their dedication to the county.
Bowman praised the employees as integral to the success of department.
The county has 129 full-time field suppression firefighters in addition to shift workers and a variety of support and administrative personnel.
Lt. Barry Head was promoted to division chief, fire marshal. Head began his career with FCFD in August 1997.
Arson investigator Debbie Lindstrom was promoted to deputy fire marshal. Lindstrom began her career with FCFD in April 2002.
Senior vehicle equipment technician Matthew Suggs was promoted to maintenance supervisor. Suggs joined FCFD in February 2000.
Firefighter/EMT Brian Christie was formally promoted to the rank of lieutenant during the ceremony. Christie began his career with FCFD in June 2005 and is stationed at Fire Station No. 3.
Firefighter/EMT Jeremy Hamilton was also promoted to lieutenant. Hamilton joined the FCFD in July 2007 and is stationed at Fire Station No. 5.
Vehicle equipment technician Jack Tribble was promoted to senior vehicle equipment technician. Tribble joined FCFD in January 2004.
A light dinner was served after the ceremony.
"The dedication and leadership exhibited by these members of the fire department is to be commended," Bowman said. "It is with tremendous pride that we promote them to their new ranks and positions."
