Water safety course held Feb. 16

February 12, 2013
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – With more boaters headed for the lake, it's a good idea to know how to be safe out there.

Plus, successful completion of a boating safety course may help with a lower insurance premium.

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 29 on Lake Lanier is offering "About Boating Safely," a one-day, seven-lesson course Saturday, Feb. 16.

The course includes lessons on the rules of the road, knowing the boat, navigating the waterways, legal boating requirements and what to do in case of an emergency. It also serves as a personal watercraft certified course for children between the ages of 12 and 16.

Classes will run from 8:30 a.m. to about 4:30 p.m. and cost $40. Discounts are available for additional family members and advanced registration is required.

The event will be at the Coast Guard Auxiliary Operations Center, 6595 Lights Ferry Road, Flowery Branch, near the Aqualand Marina.

For information, or to register for this course, call Flotilla Commander Pat Lindsey at 770-271-4059 or email
