FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — South Forsyth High School DECA marketing students have kicked off a public relations campaign to increase volunteerism in Forsyth County.
The campaign is called, "Be the Difference." As part of the campaign, groups worked on the project, including Melissa Vuocolo, Madison DiMauro, Nayaab Babar, Michael Scullin, Amanda Richards and James Kramlich.
The students in the advanced class worked as a marketing research firm and an advertising agency for the Community Connection, a nonprofit that pairs volunteers with community service opportunities.
Madison DiMauro said they had to come up with fresh ideas and figure out how to implement them.
The ideas generated were pull-off tabs that were sent to all county high schools, QR coded fliers to link users to a volunteer sign up page and a video. Through Mahalo Marketing, the students produced billboards that were displayed at the intersection of Buford Highway and Atlanta Highway (Ga. 9).
"We decided that our community needed to 'be the difference,' that's how we came up with the slogan," DiMauro said.
Marketing Advisor Debra Moore said this group will be part of about 125 students at South Forsyth who will be taking their projects to a state competition Feb. 28 in Atlanta. The students hope their project will help them advance to an international marketing competition in Anaheim, Calif.
