January 30, 2013 NORTH FULTON, Ga. – Despite the threat of winter weather Jan. 18, the 2013 Golden Eagle Breakfast had a full house at the Metropolitan Club to support Scouting in the Milton District and raised $30,000.
Over 60 business, civic and Scouting leaders and elected officials attended this year's Boy Scout fundraising event to show their support for Boy Scouts in the community. The Milton District includes Alpharetta, Milton, most of Roswell and the western half of Johns Creek. Over 3,000 youth participate in Scouting in the Milton District.
The fundraiser provides funding to support the district's summer programs, adult training, equipment and sponsorships. With a goal of $25,000, it raised over $30,000.
This year's Golden Eagle Committee Chairman Tom Dalluge said he was pleased with the event.
"We have consistently met or exceeded our fundraising goals in the Milton District," Dalluge said. "The businesses, civic groups and Scouters in our community continue to help the district provide a superior program for the youth in our community. The next generation of leaders in this community is blessed to have this kind of support."
Atlanta Area Council Scout Executive/CEO Tracy Techau attended the event and, since 2012 was the centennial of Scouting, provided a message of encouragement for the next 100 years, reaffirming the Atlanta Area Council's commitment to the youth of the great Atlanta area.
Recent Eagle Scout Ryan Avery, a 15-year-old sophomore at Mt. Pisgah Christian School, spoke to the crowd about how Scouting has shown him all he can accomplish. Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle, whose son is in Cub Scouts, delivered the keynote speech focused on the opportunity and need for mentoring the next generation. View images.
