January 22, 2013 CUMMING, Ga. — The Great Decisions lecture series, an annual discussion program produced by the Foreign Policy Association and presented by the University of North Georgia, has returned.
The eight-week series started Jan. 14 and goes through March 7 at UNG’s Cumming and Gainesville campuses.
The series offers participants the opportunity to explore global issues impacting the economy and world politics with the university’s faculty members. This year’s topics range from Middle East realignment to energy geopolitics. The second half of each program is set aside for audience questions and discussion.
Sessions are from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The lecture series are free and open to the public.
In Hall County, the series will be held Mondays on the Gainesville campus in the Martha Nesbitt Building, Cleveland Room 3110A.
The series will be held Thursdays on the Cumming campus, 300 Aquatic Circle, Room 162. Topics are selected by the national Great Decisions editorial board based on the most pressing global issues and regions.
This year’s sessions are:
Jan. 21 and Jan. 24 – “Myanmar and Southeast Asia,” presented by Dr. Richard Byers, associate professor, Department of History, Anthropology, Religion and Philosophy
Jan. 28 and Jan. 31 – “NATO,” presented by Dr. Craig Greathouse, associate professor, Department of International Affairs and Political Science
Feb. 4 and Feb. 7 – “Threat Assessment,” presented by Dr. Dlynn Armstrong-Williams, head of the Department of International Affairs and Political Science
Feb. 11 and Feb. 14 – “China in Africa,” presented by Dr. Sungshin Kim, assistant professor, Department of History, Anthropology, Religion and Philosophy
Feb. 18 and Feb. 21 – “Egypt,” presented by Dr. Victoria Hightower, assistant professor, Department of History, Anthropology, Religion and Philosophy
Feb. 25 and Feb. 28 – “Future of the Euro,” presented by Dr. Lance Bardsley, assistant professor, Department of International Affairs and Political Science
March 4 and March 7 – “Humanitarian Intervention,” presented by Dr. Randy Parish Jr., professor, Department of International Affairs and Political Science
