ROSWELL, Ga. – Slither on over to the Chattahoochee Nature Center to see some "sssssensational" snakes.

A Southeastern Snake Encounter Show begins at 1 p.m. on Jan. 19 and will feature Jason Clark, star of the Animal Planet series "SnakesKin."

Clark brings out venomous and non-venomous snakes during this exciting and humorous show. Clark has king snakes and rattlesnakes leave their cages behind to meet some of their reptilian friends.

Clark also shares how to identify and be safe around snakes while recounting his adventures from wildlife removal emergencies.

From noon to 4 p.m. the Reptile Wagon will give visitors an up-close view of live, native reptiles. This exciting traveling exhibit from the Southeastern Reptile Rescue features snakes, tortoises and even alligators, waiting to be discovered.

From 2-4 p.m., guests can make crafty reptiles like a slinky snake with Camp Kingfisher's Mr. Tim. Some snakes may even look like one of the stars of the Southeastern Snake Show.

Reptile fact: During winter, reptiles can often go without food for months during brumation. Brumation is triggered by lack of heat and the decrease in the hours of daylight in winter. However, they do wake up to drink water, then return to "sleep."

Brumation is different than hibernation. When mammals hibernate, they are actually asleep; when reptiles brumate, their metabolism slows down and they are less active, so they do not need to eat as often.

All of this is included in general admission, which is $6 for children, $10 for adults and $7 for students aged 13-18 and seniors 65 and older. Admission is free for CNC members and children 2 and under.
