January 15, 2013 NORTH FULTON, Ga. – Over the years, the people of Senior Services North Fulton (SSNF) have been bringing the community together to celebrate the lives of seniors and raise awareness and support for the programs and services they need. They are the only nonprofit in North Fulton dedicated to serving the older adults residing in Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton, Mountain Park, Roswell and Sandy Springs.
SSNF announced that Milton community volunteer Sharon Lockwood will be honored at the Heart and Soul fundraiser.
"[SSNF] are very nice people to work with," Lockwood said. "They are a great group of people who do a lot of good things. I've really enjoyed it."
Lockwood is a passionate advocate for seniors and individuals with disabilities, said SSNF Development Director Donna McKinney.
"We look to see how to honor different people in the community who have an interest and passion in making a difference," McKinney said. "Sharon is an advocate for seniors and people with disabilities."
Lockwood is a founding member of Better Together, whose mission is to create a more welcoming community for all, specifically those who have a disability or feel isolated from community life, including the elderly. She also served on the Milton Disability Awareness Committee (MDAC), and is an active member of the Crabapple Community Association.
"She is an inspiration to everyone who meets her, and she just keeps on going, always with a smile," said Milton Mayor Joe Lockwood.
Mayor Lockwood is the son of Sharon.
She will be honored at the annual fundraiser for SSNF.
"Our Heart and Soul theme reminds us of our compassionate volunteers, board members and staff who work tirelessly to meet the needs of older adults in our community. The event gives us an opportunity to thank all who have helped us this past year and raise much needed financial support for the organization," said Carrie Bellware, Senior Services North Fulton's executive director.
