Outgoing president Judy Meer handed over the symbolic gavel to her successor at the meeting at the Historic Gardens at Great Oaks event facility on Mimosa Boulevard in Roswell.

"I am looking forward to a productive year," said Johanna Harned, incoming 2013 president. "There are a variety of projects the Roswell Historical Society has going in 2013 to allow a greater involvement for all our members. It's going to be a great year."

This was the 42nd annual installation of officers for the society. Resident Tom Lynch presided over the installation as master of ceremonies.

Along with the new officers, past president and longtime member Connie Huddleston was honored for her work in preservation throughout Roswell. She was instrumental in starting the Beyond My Stone program in the city's graveyards, where actors portray important members of Roswell's founding families. She has also organized preservation activities for the cemeteries and was instrumental in acquiring and preserving the Hembree Farm property on Hembree Road.

"I started and worked on what I did to get people active in preservation," Huddleston said. "It's when you give your Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon or hours during the week, that is when you are a preservationist."

Awards were also presented to restaurant Table and Main and to Maylon Mimms for their efforts in preservation in Roswell.
