December 11, 2012 CUMMING, Ga. — A Buford third-grader was recognized by the Cumming chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America Dec. 3 for the youngster's considerable work on behalf of America's military.
In a ceremony conducted during the chapter's regular monthly meeting, 9-year-old Cody Jackson was made an honorary member of Chapter 1030 and presented with a VVA cap by President Billy Darby.
The home-schooled boy began his regular travels to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport to greet active duty military personnel as they travel to and from combat assignments in Afghanistan when he was just 4 years old. Thus far, he has met 12,000 of our men and women in uniform.
In addition, he has sent over 1,800 pounds of goods to soldiers assigned to the War on Terror.
Jackson even has a website, www.1boyuso.com, where he offers T-shirts and two books about what makes America a great country. Proceeds from the sale of the items help the young patriot to support his efforts on behalf of our military.
It all began five years ago when he asked his parents, "Why is it so hard to get on an airplane?" Ever since his parents explained as best they could about the events of Sept. 11, 2001 and the sacrifices of those in the armed forces, he was committed to do all that he could. In addition, he said he hopes that his books can help his peers become more patriotic and increase their understanding of the sacrifices made by deployed troops. View images.
