ROSWELL, Ga. — Seventeen-year-old Roswell High School student Kellie Soafer and her teammate on the RHS color guard, Allie Korzekwa, will be marching in the 86th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City on Thursday Nov. 22. Both girls were selected as the two representatives from Georgia to perform as flag members in the Macy's Great American Marching Band.
The band is comprised of students selected from all over the United States. Under the direction of Auburn University's Dr. Richard Good and Barry Houser of the University of Illinois, the band is comprised of 185 band members and 30 flags and dancers.
The band will take up its position among the gigantic helium balloons, floats and the nation's top marching bands. Stepping off from Central Park, the band will be cheered by approximately 2.5 million spectators lining the parade route. Arriving at Macy's Herald Square, the band will perform for celebrity hosts, a grandstand audience and more than 50 million TV viewers watching the broadcast live on NBC.
