FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Scott Kuhn is not a school principal, but he got to shadow one for a day.

Mashburn Elementary School Principal Tracey Smith led the way.

She showed Kuhn, a vice president senior relationship manager of business banking at Wells Fargo Bank, the ropes and what it takes to run a school with about 600 students.

"I want it to be a good day for him," Smith said on the 52-degree morning Nov. 13.

The two started their day off welcoming students to the school.

"Good morning," Kuhn said as students got off their yellow school bus, half-asleep and some forgetting their jackets. Then, it was on to car duty, helping young students out of their parents' cars and minivans.

This was the first time the Principal for a Day partnership between the Cumming-Forsyth Chamber of Commerce and the Forsyth County School System took place.

The program exposed about two-dozen members of the chamber to an elementary, middle or high school in the county.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the administrative side of the school," Kuhn said.

Later in the day, Principal Smith took Kuhn along during a student discipline session. Kuhn also sat through meetings with teachers, parents and lunch duty.

This is not Kuhn's first time at an elementary school. His wife works at Kelly Mill Elementary and he has participated in the WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) Program. The program asks for fathers to be involved for a day at their child's school.

"Because they knew I worked at a bank, they asked me for help with math problems," Kuhn said.
