300 runners in Cumming, high fives all around

November 15, 2012
CUMMING, Ga. — Spectators cheered about 300 runners who took part in the sixth annual road race in support of the Special Olympics.

The race benefitted the Forsyth County Special Olympics, and there was a lot of gratitude and high fives going around on the cold Saturday morning, Nov. 3.

"I had a great time for a great cause," said runner Tonya Wallace.

Held at the Lanier Tech Conference Center, 7745 Majors Road in Cumming, the race encouraged corporations, area schools and local businesses to join. Vendors such as Starbucks, Vickery Pediatrics and Great Harvest Bread Co. participated. Employees of Kohl's volunteered by handing out snacks to runners after the race.

Administrative Assistant Emilee Johnston and employees of the Cumming and Milton Kohl's stores volunteered their time and raised about $1,000 to the Forsyth County Special Olympics efforts.

"We love to do this," Johnston said. "It's awesome."
