November 14, 2012 JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – City of Johns Creek employees and members of the Johns Creek Veterans Association met Friday morning, Nov. 9, to celebrate the birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps (which technically is Nov. 10).
Deputy City Manager Buzz Boehm, a retired lieutenant colonel in the Marines, read the historic birthday message written in 1921 by Commandant John A. Lejeune. City Manager John Kachmar, a former Marine and Vietnam veteran, then read a birthday message from current Commandant James F. Amos.
The Marine Corps colors were presented by members of the Veterans Association Color Guard, and flew through the weekend at City Hall.
The city of Johns Creek similarly honors the birthday of each of the country's military branches.
