OAKWOOD, Ga. — A Forsyth County youth has been invited to speak and receive honors at Gainesville State College.

Remington Youngblood, 11, will be speaking at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Gainesville State College's Continuing Education Performing Arts Center auditorium, 3820 Mundy Mill Road/Ga. 53 in Oakwood.

Youngblood, of Riverwatch Middle School in Forsyth County, started a nonprofit organization and will be presented with a donation. A veterans' scholarship in Remington Youngblood's name will also be unveiled by the Gainesville State College Center for Adult Learners and Military (CALM).

Youngblood founded Change 4 Georgia, an organization to help military service men and women with everyday supplies.

"I made the choice to reach out and make a difference," Youngblood said. "What started as my personal project of compassion and appreciation has now evolved into a community effort to aid our troops."

Youngblood's organization collects items from the military's "wish list."

"These are items that are not readily available or not provided, but that add comfort and fit in their backpacks," Youngblood said.

In addition to Youngblood's presentation, Sen. Jack Murphy, Sen. Steve Gooch and Sen. Butch Miller will be on hand to speak and show support for Youngblood's work.

The event is free and open to the public.
