CUMMING, Ga. — The Ashebrooke Book Club had a treat at their most recent meet-up event.
Jonathan Grant, author of "Brambleman," was welcomed by 14 women in the club and spoke about his book, which fictionalizes real sordid events that happened in Forsyth County.
But the book club event was a sweet gathering.
Once Upon A Cake in Alpharetta custom made cupcakes with edible versions of the author's book.
"I had a wonderful time with the lovely ladies of the Ashebrooke Book Club," Grant said afterward.
The event was hosted by Jenny Barber and organized by Marcy Theobald.
Theobald said an article published in the Forsyth Herald in June inspired the club's choice.
"That got me to go buy the book, read it, then recommend it to our book club," Theobald said. "We all enjoyed the book immensely and it was quite eye-opening to learn about Forsyth's past, which I knew nothing about before moving here 14 years ago."
The book club's next book is "Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons" by Lorna Landvik. "We're looking to lighten it up a bit for the next one," Theobald said.
