October 18, 2012 CUMMING, Ga. — People who went to Fowler Park last weekend were in for quite a surprise.
Men were walking around in women's shoes and some were even in dresses and wigs.
It was not a Halloween party, but all for a good laugh and awareness of a serious topic — domestic violence.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes was held Oct. 7 to help fund the Forsyth County Family Haven shelter, a local domestic violence center.
Solicitor General Leslie Abernathy, organizer and chairwoman of the Forsyth County Domestic Violence Task Force, said the goal of the event was to cause a paradigm shift away from questioning the woman, "Why don't you leave the relationship?" to asking the man, "Why don't you stop?"
It was the event's second year and there was a good turnout with lots of men ready to participate, all for different reasons.
"It's a very worthy cause," said Bill Roach, of Cumming.
