October 17, 2012GAINESVILLE, Ga. Marketplace an annual festive holiday shopping event presented by premier sponsors The Medical Center Auxiliary and Willis Investment Counsel is celebrating its 21st year November 8 10 at the Gainesville Civic Center.
All proceeds from Marketplace 2012 benefit radiation oncology services offered through The Cancer Center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Marketplace Preview Party is Thursday, November 8, 6:30 9:30 p.m. Tickets for Preview Party are $40 per person ($20 is tax deductible), which includes heavy hors d'oeuvres; a silent and live auction; a return admission to Marketplace; and the chance to shop before Marketplace opens to the public.
General admission is open 9:30 a.m.- 6:30 p.m. on Friday and 9:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are $5, and children 12 and under are admitted free. Complimentary valet parking and a parking shuttle will be available.
Marketplace will feature more than 70 merchants from eight states including 25 first-time merchants selling unique gift items such as art and books; jewelry and other ladies' accessories; home accessories; women's, men's and children's clothing; gourmet food; Christmas items; and much more. Gifts will be priced in all ranges from small, inexpensive gifts to unique, one-of-a-kind items such as silhouette portraits. Silhouette portrait artist Edward Casey, Walt Disney World's former top-selling artist, will be at Marketplace from 3 6 p.m. on Friday, November 9. Using only tiny surgical scissors and a small piece of fine quality paper, Casey cuts classical silhouettes completely freehand within three minutes. Marketplace attendees have the opportunity to meet author James Farmer on Saturday, November 10, at 1 p.m. on the Green Street Porch. James is a Southern author; gardener; floral and interior designer; cook; and garden-to-table lifestyle expert. He is editor for Southern Living Magazine and author of the Wall Street Journal best-selling garden books "A Time To Plant (2011)," "Sip & Savor (2012)" and "Porch Living (2012)." He will be available for autographed purchases of his books for a brief time after his presentation.
Marketplace is The Medical Center Auxiliary's annual fundraiser, and each year benefits healthcare services of Northeast Georgia Medical Center. This year's chairpersons Kristin Daniel, Emily Embry and Ellen Toms lead a planning committee of 30 volunteers. More than 150 volunteers will serve during the Marketplace weekend.
