JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – The debut of the first ever Johns Creek Arts Festival will feature music, food, activities for the kiddies and more than 120 artists from around the country the weekend of Oct. 27-28.

"Partnering with Arts on the Creek, the city wants to bring Johns Creek to the next level," said Johns Creek Council Chief of Staff Patty Hansen. "This will be a major stage event with entertainment from local schools as well as professionals."

Saturday night will have the Johns Creek Symphony kick off its 2012-13 season, followed by fireworks.

"Everyone can bring a blanket and a picnic dinner if they like," Hansen said.

The event is in the field across from the Atlanta Athletic Club on Medlock Bridge Road (Ga. 141) with the AAC catering food and beverages, including beer and wine.

"We'll have two wide-screen TVs up in the ACC tent. So dad can relax and watch the Georgia-Florida game if he wants," said Grant Hickey, city director of community relations and communications.

The festival will also feature a Kid Zone with wall climbing, lots of hands-on crafts and activities and face painting. Girl Scouts will have recycled art and Home Depot will have a woodworking craft area.

A Saturday pet parade will feature pets in Halloween costume (they must be caged or leashed), and Sunday will have a children's (fifth grade and younger) Halloween costume parade (cages and leashes not necessary). Both will feature prizes for "Best Costume."

The festival will be produced by Splash Festivals, which puts on the Norcross Arts Fest, the Dunwoody Arts Festival and the Acworth Art Fest.

"It is our job to get the artisans from all over the country and the sponsors as well as market the event," said Frances Schube, Splash Festivals producer. "We provide a turnkey festival. Johns Creek has been fantastic to work with along with the Johns Creek Convention and Visitors Bureau and Arts on the Creek Inc.

"What we promise is a whimsical, colorful show."

The artisans will feature fine crafts, jewelry, pottery, glasswork, folk art, fiber artwork and mixed-media art.

The inaugural Arts Festival will be Johns Creek's biggest event of all the fall events, Hickey said.

"It will be a great chance for early holiday shopping for the smart shoppers. And it is designed for all members of the family to enjoy. And of course, everybody loves fireworks," Hickey said.
