ROSWELL, Ga. – Roswell's hopes of returning to the playoffs were dealt a severe blow when the Hornets lost 26-14 at home last Friday night against Etowah.
The Hornets are now 0-2 in Region 5-AAAAAA and 1-4 overall. The Eagles are 2-0 and 3-2 and part of a four-way tie for first place in the region.
Roswell trailed 23-0 before scoring twice in the fourth quarter on touchdown passes of 18 yards and 4 yards from Ryan Monty to John Albert.
Etowah kept standout Roswell tailback Andrew Kwateng in check, limiting him to just under 100 yards rushing. Kwateng had rushed for 880 yards in the Hornets' first four games. Monty completed 12 passes for almost 120 yards.
Etowah took a 7-0 lead midway through the first period, and scored after an interception late in the second quarter. A safety after a high punt snap in the final minute of the half made it 16-0.
Roswell plays its next three games against three teams that are also 0-2 in the region. The Hornets are at home Friday against Wheeler (0-2, 2-3).
