October 01, 2012 MILTON, Ga. — A King's Ridge Christian School pre-K class got a special visit from the Milton Police and Fire departments Sept 12.
Susan Starling's pre-kindergarten class completed their study of community helpers and collected over 60 stuffed animals to donate to the departments for first responders to give to children in need.
"King's Ridge feels community service is very important, and we work hard to teach the children to give back to their community," Starling said.
As a thank you, the police and fire departments in Milton gave the students hands-on demonstrations performed by K-9 Officer DaSilva and his partner, Sgt. Brian Kiel. The students were also able to sit inside a police car and tour a fire truck.
Students were given bulletproof vests to try on, but were most excited to receive their own fireman hat.
"The children were wonderful," Capt. Thom Brown of the Milton Fire Department said. "They worked hard to get these stuffed animals for other children, children who are scared and confused."
The officers and firemen stayed and ate a pizza lunch with the students and continued to discuss the responsibilities of community helpers.
