September 12, 2012 JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — The American flag now flies above Shakerag Park thanks to the service project of Eagle Scout Jake Erickson.
A rising senior at Johns Creek High School, Erickson found out that the city was renovating the fields of Shakerag for soccer, lacrosse and rugby tournaments.
"I thought a great addition to the site would be a flagpole and paver plaza, so there would be a flag to salute for the national anthem," Erickson said. "Additionally, it would act as the center point of the fields and serve as a rallying point. The flag itself also serves as a reminder of how fortunate we are to live in the United States, and to be thankful for the men and women in the armed services, police, firefighters and EMS who risk their lives every day to protect us, our rights and our freedom."
