August 27, 2012 MILTON, Ga. – When is a door not a door? When it's a feature. That is, featured in HGTV Magazine for winning a national contest for best front door. And the winner was one of Milton's own, interior designer Rachel Greathouse.
"I saw in the magazine there was a contest," Greathouse said. "So I thought I would send a picture in."
Hundreds of people entered the "Fantastic Front Door" contest for the best front door in the country.
Greathouse had just redone the entrance way of her home, located off Providence Road, and justifiably felt proud of it.
"To give this classic wood door an update look, I painted it cherry red, added oil-rubbed bronze hardware and flanked it with topiaries," Greathouse said , describing the door in her entry.
But even she was surprised it was chosen as the winner.
"We were laughing about it," she said when her family went on spring break in April. "But the next day, they called me from New York."
Greathouse said she has been doing interior design on and off for 10 years, however has only really been able to dig into it for the past five.
"I just love to do it," she said. "I enjoy it."
