CUMMING, Ga. —This week, Carrabba's Italian Grill opened its doors in Cumming, bringing a new concept of the restaurant to the Avenue Forsyth.

Carrabba's, which is headed by Jaimie Cullinan, opened at 4 p.m. Aug. 20. To show its support of the local communities, 50 percent of Carrabba's opening night sales (up to $5,000) will be donated to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Forsyth.

"Being part of this community means we'll be working with the community a lot," Cullinan said last week during a preview of their menu to Children's officials.

Beth Buursema, community outreach for Children's Healthcare in Forsyth, said the donation will go a long way in making a difference in the lives of many children and their families.

"Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Forsyth relies on the generous financial and volunteer support of our community, and we are honored that Carrabba's has chosen the organization as its opening night charity," Buursema said.

The Italian restaurant, 420 Peachtree Parkway, boasts a new modern look and feel, said Cullinan.

"This is a new design for us," Cullinan said. "Our customers will be pleased with the more updated look."

Cullinan comes to Cumming from his previous role as regional manager for Ruby Tuesday, where he oversaw 62 restaurants. He said his favorite dish at his new establishment is the veal marsala.

"You put our marsala sauce in anything and it's delicious," he said.

In addition to dishes prepared with ingredients from around the world — the calamari comes from Thailand, because it's the freshest there — there's a full bar and 43 brands of wine.

Featuring an open kitchen and a relaxed casual dining room, about 70 new hires have joined the team to learn the chops. The weekend prior to opening, the staff hosted their families to enjoy a taste of their made-from-scratch food at no cost. It was also a chance to make mistakes prior to show time.

"The Carrabba's team strives to deliver passion, energy and excitement each and every day," Cullinan said. "We look forward to providing the Cumming community a warm and welcoming atmosphere with an intimate dining experience."

Love Carrabba's but this one may not make it. Bad Service, Undercooked food and bad drinks. Suggest go to Alpharetta location which is much better.
