ROSWELL, Ga. — In the wake of a national tragedy in Wisconsin, North Fulton-area Sikhs gathered to pray for and reflect upon their dead brothers and sisters with a candlelight vigil Aug. 10 as dusk fell.

Held at the SEWA (Sikh Educational Welfare Association Inc.) Gurudwara Sahib on Woodstock Road, Roswell, more than 100 people gathered for a prayer service to remember the fallen and to give vigil to their memories.

On Aug. 5, a gunman, identified as Wade Michael Page, 40, entered a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wis., and opened fire, killing six people and wounding four others. Each of the six dead received prayers.

"Thank you to everyone including a lot of friends and neighbors who have come to express support and solidarity," said Parvinder Singh, a member of the temple. "We have received tremendous support from the entire community."

Members of the wider Roswell community attended the vigil, including Mayor Jere Wood.

"We share your agony and grief," said Wood. "The culture and traditions you bring to Roswell makes us a better place."

Roswell Councilmember Becky Wynn also attended the service.

"You are in my prayers and heart," she said. "Your community is an integral part of this community and this country."

The crowd gathered outside the temple after the service to light candles and sing, "Peace to all, life to all, love to all."

"It really feels we are united," Singh said. "That is the fabric of this country."
