JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Bailey Dickinson, a 16-year-old rising junior at Chattahoochee High School, set a national record after participating in the 2012 National Rock Climbing Competition in Atlanta July 5-7.

Dickinson earned a time of 6.51 seconds in the 10-meter speed climb, making her the first woman in the United States to complete the event in less than seven seconds.

Her time not only secured her with a gold medal for her age group, but it also earned her a spot on the U.S. National Team, which will compete at the IFSC World Championships in Singapore at the end of August.

Dickinson has been rock climbing for about four years. She was a member of last year's U.S. National Team that competed at the World Championships in Imst, Austria. She is coached by the U.S. National Team coach Claudiu Vidulescu.

Rock climbing is currently being considered as an event for the 2020 Olympics.
