ROSWELL, Ga. — Some of the most prominent names in LPGA history will tee it up in North Fulton in the inaugural Judson Collegiate Invitational and Legends Tour Atlanta Pro-Am, which will be played July 15-18 at Country Club of Roswell.

Proceeds will go to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

The tournament will honor the memory of Beth and Jim Judson, who were valued members of the Roswell community and part of the metro Atlanta golf family. The Judsons died in a plane crash in 2010 while returning home from one of their daughter Lauren's college tournaments as a member of the women's team at Southern Mississippi.

It was Lauren Judson's wish to start a tournament to honor her parents, and with the help of Country Club of Roswell professional Jackie Cannizzo and local resident Rosie Jones, a member of the Legends Tour, an event involving both college players and LPGA legends was created.

The unique event will take place over four days, with 30 members of the Legends Tour competing over the first two days and the college players teeing it up all four days, the first two in conjunction with the Legends.

The tournament begins on Sunday with a pro-am featuring up to 30 Legends players, who will each play with two college players and two amateur participants. Many of the teams will consist of a Legends player and two current college players from the alma maters of the pro. A shotgun start is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

The Legends players will be paired with two different collegians on Monday, with three separate competitions taking place. The Legends will play for a $120,000 purse, with the college players also playing individually in the first round of their 54-hole stroke play tournament.

In addition, each team will compete in a best ball competition. Teams will tee off on holes 1 and 10 beginning at 9 a.m., with play the final two days also going off both tees beginning at 8 a.m.

The college players will have the opportunity to compete along side some of the greatest players in LPGA history.

Among the scheduled participants are Rosie Jones, Nancy Lopez, Betsy King, Patty Sheehan, Beth Daniel, Pat Bradley, Hollis Stacy, Amy Alcott, Jan Stephenson and Legends newcomer Liselotte Neumann.

Most of the players competed in an LPGA event played at Roswell's Brookfield Country Club from 1977-84, as well as the U.S. Women's Open at Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek in 1990.

The Judson Collegiate Invitational and Legends Tour Atlanta Pro-Am is being played at Country Club of Roswell, which has been a part of the North Fulton golf community for almost four decades.

The club was known as Willow Springs for most of its existence, changing to Country Club of Roswell in 1994. The family-oriented club features one of the more interesting layouts among area clubs. It features mostly narrow fairways, modest length and ample amounts of trouble in play, with a string of intriguing holes, particularly on the back nine.
