Martin and Nattnoi Robison on Feb. 3, 2006. (click for larger version)
May 20, 2013There's a TV show called "What Would You Do?" The premise is people are secretly filmed in awkward and sometimes embarrassing situations, and we get to see how they react.
Then there's real life, when we are faced with split-second decisions that affect our lives and others.
Martin Robison, 34, a high school friend of mine, was recently put into a real-life situation and how he reacted can only be described as heroic.
And it cost him his life.
On May 8, Robison was taking his 7-year-old daughter to school, when he witnessed his next door neighbor in Addison, Texas, being attacked by her deranged husband.
Robison stepped in and the bleeding victim ran to safety to tend to 17 stab wounds.
Robison's wife, Nattnoi, answered the door to find her daughter screaming along with her stabbed neighbor.
Across the parking lot, Robison was lying injured — stabbed seven times — including a knife wound to head. A week later, he died at the hospital.
Robison did what he knew was right.
His murderer, Robert Pineda, 27, fled and has been eluding police, who believe he is somewhere in Houston.
The victim survived because of Robison's actions.
But for his actions, he leaves behind a wife and daughter. His dad, Paul, called him a "gentle soul." He truly was and will be missed by all who knew him.
I don't think many people would have put themselves in harm's way the way Robison did. Would you?
I just hope for justice and that the man who did this pays dearly for the pain he has caused.
