February 11, 2013 The Arbor Day Geo-Hunt contest, sponsored by the Alpharetta Natural Resource Commission, is off and running. Now in its third week, this Geo-Hunt offers all the fun and challenge of a geocaching adventure. Plus there is an added bonus to learn about Alpharetta's trees and possibly win some great prizes too.
If you haven't heard about this before, or just haven't gotten started yet, no problem! There is still plenty of time to participate before the contest ends on March 4th. Go to the City of Alpharetta website at www.alpharetta.ga.us and look on the front page for the Geo-Hunt banner. Follow the links provided for more information. Contest rules and a list of Geo-Hunt site coordinates can be found there as well. Then take your trusty GPS-enabled device (smart phone or GPS unit), grab your friends and family, and start hunting. When you find a cache box read the enclosed information, sign the log book, take a green note card, and punch it to enter the contest.
The Geo-Hunt contest is the official lead-up to our annual Arbor Day Celebration which will occur on Saturday March 9th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Rock Mill Park in Alpharetta. At that event we will be planting some trees and announcing prize winners in the Geo-Hunt contest. Prizes will be awarded in several categories, including awards for the person or family who is 'First to Find' each cache box. Don't miss out on your chance to win.
