FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Things have changed at the Laurel Springs Village Center in Suwanee.

With the addition of Local Kitchen and Tap, 3590 Old Atlanta Road, the corner restaurant has brought in a family-friendly atmosphere. The former restaurant was called Halftime Grill and was geared toward a biker crowd.

"We're not the biker bar anymore," said Meribeth Locke.

Locke and her brother, who co-own Alessio's Restaurant Pizzeria with locations in Cumming, Roswell and Johns Creek, decided a gastro pub restaurant concept with a focus on American food was in order for the area.

"We thought the location was great and we like the feeling of it," Locke said. "The place just needed a really good cleaning. It was a year-and-a-half before a restaurant had been here."

After an extensive renovation to what used to be called "Halftime Grill" and a thought out, clean concept and new lighting, Local Kitchen and Tap was born.

"I don't know if people still think we are the 'Halftime' operations," she said. "We are trying to get really involved in the community."

Popular items include flatbreads ($5); Georgia peach and bourbon chicken wings ($9) and the Local burger ($8). For dessert, try the house-made bread pudding ($5).

The place also has a full bar, with an emphasis on local brews. On Saturday nights, live acoustic musicians perform.

"People love the diverse menu," said Trace Kennedy, a manager. "We're the 'Cheers' of Suwanee."

There is a children's play room that is open, so parents can keep an eye on their kids.

"We tried everything we can to make this family-friendly," Locke said. "We are right in your neighborhood, so come on by."
