Healthcare IT aggregator launches website in Alpharetta

Entrepreneur wants to connect patients with doctors in new ways

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — A newly launched website wants to serve as a resource for insured and uninsured people seeking lower costs on their medical, health, dental and even beauty services.

The recently launched site also partners with doctors and specialists in the Northside to give their services at no cost, said the company's president, Tanya Mack.

"HealthGate is an online transaction website that is exclusively healthcare," Mack said.

Mack said the site serves as an aggregator for patients looking for procedure information, healthcare savings and doctors.

But it also serves as a resource for doctors looking for patients. Mack said her idea is different because from a doctor's side, her business connects them more closely with patients.

"Doctors used to be a lot more connected with their patients," she said. "We're helping doctors fill their unused capacity, so if they are not busy, we've been able to bring them business directly."

She sees the concept as taking healthcare back to the days of her parents, who used to pay out-of-pocket costs.

"They had healthcare coverage for catastrophic things, but they really paid out of their pocket a lot for everyday things," Mack said. "We're just doing it in a new way."

Mack, of Cumming, started the company in March 2012. During the summer, she built the website, raised capital and in November became president.

She said new doctors are being added daily servicing the Johns Creek, Roswell and Cumming communities and she hopes to grow her business from just the north side of metro Atlanta to include other states.

And then there's giving back to the community, which Mack said is also unique.

"Most of the doctors, when we bring them on, we ask if they are interested in giving back to the community," Mack said.

Mack said 90 percent of the doctors on her site want to give back to the communities they serve.

"When people are hurting every day from not having enough resources themselves, knowing that your kid's cleft palate can get fixed by the plastic surgeon, or if your kid has asthma, there's asthma respiratory system at no cost in there is great," Mack said. "We have physicians who are doing great things in giving back."
