Forsyth welcomes new electric utility manufacturer

Headquarters for Korean-based IUS Technologies could bring 150 jobs

December 18, 2012
ALPHARETTA, Ga. — A Korean-based company that specializes in green technology product development and system integration for electric utility markets established its U.S. headquarters in Forsyth County.

IUS Technologies hopes its manufacturing and distribution headquarters in Alpharetta can bring its products to the U.S. electrical industry and consumers.

The company, a subsidiary of South Korea-based Vitzro Group, is working with the Cumming-Forsyth Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Department of Economic Development to streamline processes behind the start-up of manufacturing activities at its 20,000-square-foot headquarters, 1355 McFarland 400 Drive in Alpharetta.

"We looked at a number of properties when launching our business and specifically chose our site in Forsyth County because of the outstanding support we received from the Cumming-Forsyth Chamber of Commerce," said Elizabeth Shin, operations manager for IUS Technologies. "As we move forward to scale up our manufacturing operations, the workforce training programs we will receive through the Georgia Department of Economic Development will allow IUS Technologies to get off to a strong start."

The company says it hopes to create up to 150 jobs over the next five years and is estimated to be making about $10 million in capital investment.

IUS "Born Smart" devices that are being manufactured here will help optimize the electric utility smart grid by reducing consumption and waste, decreasing CO2 and greenhouse emissions and increasing grid capacity all while reducing customer outages.

The company will introduce new remote sensor products for the U.S. market in January and will subsequently grow its manufacturing and engineering workforce to fulfill customer orders.

"Our community has emerged as a hub for green technology firms," said David Seago, chairman of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce. "We are one of the first communities in the nation to develop a green incentive program to reduce the tax burden of green corporations."

IUS Technologies, Seago said, exemplifies the kind of firm the community continues to attract.

"Their smart grid technology platforms clearly demonstrate the level of innovation that their company is capable of bringing to the U.S. energy industry," Seago said.

IUS is part of a growing international business community that the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce has helped bring to the county in recent years.

When working to launch IUS Technologies, Vitzro Group officials received site selection assistance from the chamber to ensure it would acquire industrial office space that could be adapted to IUS's needs.

The chamber also provided an international business documentation package that provides much of the basic information, such as employee manuals that international businesses need when they establish a U.S. subsidiary.

"They are affirming the fact that this county is a great place to do business," said Todd Levent, a member of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners. "We have so much to offer here, including low tax rates, outstanding public safety services and stellar parks."

The new, "Born Smart" VS series of remote smart sensors from IUS Technologies will make their debut at the 2012 DistribuTECH conference, Jan. 29-31, 2013 at the San Diego Convention Center.
