ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Katherine Simons believes that when people help each other find jobs, they get results.

"We really believe that if we all come together on helping our neighbors, we can work through this situation in a better way," said Simons, a volunteer leader for the Job Networking Program at the Roswell United Methodist Church (RUMC).

Her prayers were answered last week, when the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce (GNFCC) partnered with the nationally acclaimed RUMC in what Simons describes as a "synergetic handshake."

"We have the same interests," Simons said. "The chamber is all about our community and bringing jobs to our community, helping the companies that are here already expand. "Thorough our collaborative effort, we are going to reach more people," she said.

In forming this strategic alliance, the GNFCC will work with RUMC in its mission to lower unemployment and match job seekers to openings in North Fulton.

The latest partnership is a boost to the current relationship with Roswell Rotary, which has been providing the employers and volunteers for the grassroots program.

The next event is a mini job fair Dec. 10.

"Participating in RUMC career networking events, we received 30 applications and moved forward with five quality applicants, which is head and shoulders above any other events we've taken part in," said S. Ash Curtis, of The Patterson Group and Sandy Springs Chapel.

The latest alliance with the GNFCC will provide a strong link between employers and all levels of job seekers in the community.

In the months to come, the GNFCC will rally its membership base and other strong resources to expand this new alliance.

Al Nash, executive director of Progress Partners North Fulton Atlanta, the GNFCC's economic development initiative, helped spearhead the collaboration.

"This alliance is a great example of how organizations can collaborate to address the needs of the community," Nash said. "It's important to our economic development strategy that we have a vehicle to match up qualified candidates with jobs that are being generated in North Fulton."

Jay Litton, a volunteer leader with the RUMC Job Networking Program and one of the founders of the program said employers are always looking for the right candidate and job seekers are ready for the right opportunity and the most up-to-date search skills.

"This alliance will bring the community together for a most pressing issue – jobs," said Litton.

Employers who seek to fill positions can participate in the next job fair on Monday, Dec. 10 and are encouraged to send information to jay.litton@saitservices.com.

Job seekers may attend the afternoon workshops starting at 1 p.m., followed by an orientation program at 5:15 p.m., dinner and then the 7:55 p.m. job fair.

In addition to its job matching services, the RUMC Job Networking Program teaches cutting-edge techniques to help job seekers keep resumes up-to-date and interviewing skills sharp.
