CUMMING, Ga. – Lanier Technical College President Russell Vandiver announced his retirement at the end of March 2013 to the college's Board of Directors. Vandiver has spent 37 years at Lanier Tech, and in the last two years, he served as the fourth president of the college.
Vandiver served as the vice president of economic development for many years helping to bring new businesses, new jobs and new training opportunities into North Georgia.
Vandiver told the board that the timing allows the Technical System of Georgia to search for the new president prior to the new fiscal year beginning in July 2013.
"Lanier Tech is a great school with great people and great customer service," Vandiver told the board.
Vandiver said that among his proudest accomplishments are the newly opened Dawson campus and the Forsyth Conference Center. He said that he had accomplished most of this Lanier Tech "bucket list," including the selection of the new vice president of economic development and the executive director of the foundation.
Vandiver concluded that his future plans are to "teach my 8-year-old grandson how to fly-fish and my 4-year-old granddaughter how to dress a doll."
