Roswell United Methodist Church has been described in many ways, but Saturday, Aug. 28, the word that comes to mind is cavernous. For this was the day of its fabulous garage sale to benefit its jobs networking ministry and other local missions.
It’s great fellowship hall was packed with nick-knacks, bric-a-brac, housewares, dinnerware and kitchenware. Go to the next huge room to find tables, rugs, beds, chairs, chests there was more wood in there than in Roswell Square.
More rooms held clothes, office furniture and books. All kinds of exercise equipment and ex-Man Cave stuff littered the sidewalk outside. Want a telescope? Just $5. One chair was $2. Trust me, it was overpriced. But many great bargains were found.
“We spend nearly $1,000 feeding up to 400 people at our jobs ministry twice a month. We collect around half that. So this second-hand sale for us is huge,” said RUMC volunteer Katherine Simons.
So it was all for a good cause, and many a basement is the lighter for it. The sale went from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Everything left over went to North Fulton Community Charities. So it was a good day for everybody. - Hatcher Hurd
