November 06, 2007 The hectic Holiday rush is just round the corner. Before the mad dash begins, one annual community event allows local residents to ease into the season.
Gov. Sonny Perdue will join this year's Forsyth County Thanksgiving Celebration on Nov. 18 and usually draws together hundreds of people for an evening of inspiration, reflection and celebration. The evening's focus is on expressing gratitude for the advantages in a growing, prosperous community.
"It's exciting to welcome Governor Perdue as our guest speaker," said Pastor Mark Harrison, President of the Forsyth County Ministerial Association. "It's always encouraging to gather with neighbors from around the county and across denominational perspectives to celebrate the blessings we enjoy together. And, this year it will be exciting to celebrate with Governor Perdue, and to see another side of him as a man of faith."
The Forsyth County Ministerial Association is a network of local religious leaders. The group meets on the first Tuesday of each month at noon in Northside Forsyth Hospital. In addition to the Community Thanksgiving Celebration, the group also sponsors Baccalaureate Services for each of our four high schools prior to graduation each spring. The group also facilitates connections between our local churches and community service organizations.
First Baptist Church Cumming will host the Nov. 18 Community Celebration in their worship center beginning at 6 p.m. A great program of inspiring music will be led by a community choir and orchestra of more than 120 singers and musicians.
Refreshments will be served following the service. Everyone is invited to attend. For more information, contact the host church at 770-887-2428.
The church is located at 1597 Sawnee Drive in Cumming. The Thanksgiving Celebration is sponsored by Northside Hospital and the Forsyth County Ministerial Association.
